What does it mean to thrive as a Christian homemaker?
Merriam Webster defines thrive as “to grow vigorously: flourish”.
A Christian homemaker is a woman who sees her role as overseer of the affairs of her household as a calling from God. She diligently tends to her work and humbly serves those in her home, her church, and her community.
Here are four things to keep in mind if you want to thrive as a Christian homemaker.

Time with God
Start each day with God in prayer and Bible study. This is the best way to quickly get your thinking and priorities straight.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
The woman who thrives is the woman who puts God first. To put God first means to spend time with him in order to build a relationship with him.
Be careful not to forget God throughout the day. Pray continually. Praise him often. Speak of him often to your children during the day.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Maintain an attitude of service
God has called every single one of his children to a life of service.
Even Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28
Our culture tells us that “successful” people do not serve others, but are served by others.
No, no, no. This is missing the entire point of our existence.
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13
Don’t let the world tell you that being a housewife and homemaker is somehow “less”. Instead, keep a humble spirit of service and remember…
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7
Be thankful
It can be so very easy in this day and age (think Pinterest and social media) to covet what others have or to be jealous of what they are accomplishing.
We can appreciate what other people have and we can even be happy for them. But, we must be careful not to fall into the trap of comparing what others have to what we lack.
Stay focused on what God has given you. Be thankful.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
Remember your identity
Your identity and worth are not tied to how well behaved your children are, or how clean your house is, or how wonderful dinner was last night.
Likewise, your identity is not tied to your job title of “Homemaker” or “Housewife”.
Remember that your identity is entirely in Christ. Do not let your self-esteem suffer if your children are screaming, the house is a wreck, and the pot roast is burned. Those are not the things that define you!
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27
