Praying prayers for your husband is the most powerful tool we as wives have to support our spouses. No matter where they are in their spiritual journeys, we need to make it a priority to pray for our husbands every day.

Here are 11 ways to pray for your husband.

Pray that he will know God’s will for his life.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Thank you, Lord, that you have a plan for my husband and that your plans are good. I pray that you would make the path you have for him clear. Give him eyes to see you and your will for his life.

Pray for his career.

Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. Ecclesiastes 9:10a

Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

Thank you, Lord, for my husband’s career and the provision it provides. I pray that you would give my husband the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional strength to complete his work today. I pray that his attitude towards his work would be one of service to you and not one of selfish personal gain.

Pray for his identity.

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:17

Father, I pray that my husband would have a clear understanding of his identity in you-that he would be able to rest in the knowledge that he is one with you in spirit and that he is your child. Protect him from the temptation to find his identity in career success, job titles, or the praise of others.

Pray for his sanctification.

Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Timothy 2:21

They disciplined us for a little while as they saw best: but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. Hebrews 12:10

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14

Lord, I pray for my husband’s sanctification. I pray you would continue to lead him towards holiness. Discipline him when need be for his own good in order that he may share in your holiness. Give him the courage, strength, and desire to pursue holiness.

Pray for his humility (to have a teachable spirit).

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it. Luke 18:17

Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to head a warning. Ecclesiastes 4:13

Father, I pray you would give my husband a humble and teachable spirit. I pray you would give him ears to hear your instructions and a heart to follow your teaching.

Pray for his struggles with the flesh.

On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you would not fall into temptation.” Luke 22:40

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 1 Timothy 6:9

Lord, thank you for providing a way out of temptation. Thank you that we are never tempted beyond what we can bear. Please keep my husband from temptation-whatever form it may take. May he know your strength to be able to walk away from all the temptations the world throws at him. Deliver him from evil.

Pray for his mind and thoughts.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Philippians 4:8

And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5b

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2

I pray for my husband’s thoughts. I pray that he would take each thought captive to make it obedient to you. I pray that he would choose to think of that which is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. Help him to renew his mind and stay focused on you.

Pray for his Christian leadership at home.

For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Ephesians 5:23

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word. Ephesians 5:25-26

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:28

I pray, God, that my husband would humbly take the role of head of our household and that he would love me as Christ loves the church. I pray that you would give him wisdom as he directs our household.

Pray for his discernment to hear God’s voice.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. Proverbs 18:15

Lord, I pray for my husband’s discernment. I pray you will give him wisdom and knowledge. Help him to know your voice and your teaching over the hollow and deceptive philosophy of this world.

Pray for his role as father.

Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge. Proverbs 14:26

The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them. Proverbs 20:7

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

Lord, I pray for my husband to be the faithful, loving father you would have him be. I pray that he would be an example to our children in word and deed and that the Holy Spirit would guide him as he instructs them. I pray that he would have patience with them and not exasperate them. I pray that you would hold firm the bonds between my husband and our children throughout their lives.

Pray that he breaks the bonds of bad habits.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7

“I have the right to do anything,” you say-but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”-but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16

Thank you, Lord, that you can empathize with our weaknesses. I pray you will help my husband find a way out of his bad habits. I pray that he would not be mastered by them. And I pray your grace will help him in his time of need.
